Dr. Daniel Angerhausen - "Sniffing Alien Atmospheres: Exoplanet spectrophotometry (from ground-, airborne- and space-based observatories)"

BlueSciCon is the seminar series of the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science that features expert discussions of contemporary research or current events. This month we feature a conversation with Daniel Angerhausen about the detection of extrasolar planets.

Daniel gives an introduction to the science of extrasolar planets, in particular the technique of detecion through transit, eclipse and phase-curve (spectro-)photometry methods. He describes his various projects in this emerging field using spectroscopic and photometric instruments on the largest ground based telescopes, the 'flying telescope' SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) and the Kepler and Hubble space telescopes.
