How do you communicate AI innovation? SwissCognitive collaborating with the Explainables

HOW TO COMMUNICATE AI INNOVATION WITHIN AND OUTSIDE YOUR COMPANY? THAT WAS THE TITLE OF A WORKSHOP THE EXPLAINABLES DESIGNED FOR THE AWARD-WINNING GLOBAL AI HUB, SWISSCOGNITIVE. USUALLY, WE WORK WITH SCIENTIST, ENGINEERS AND TECHNOLOGISTS IN OUR WORKSHOPS AN SHOW THEM HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH COLLABORATORS WITH A LESS TECHNICAL BACKGROUND. THIS TIME, HOWEVER, WE HAD TO SWITCH SIDES AND WORKED WITH C-LEVEL MANAGERS, HELPING THEM TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION ABOUT MACHINE LEARNING BETWEEN DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS IN THEIR COMPANY AS WELL AS WITH CLIENTS AND COSTUMERS. READ MORE ABOUT THE LESSONS LEARNED AT THIS EXCITING SESSION, THAT WAS JUST THE START OF A FRUITFUL COLLABORATION BETWEEN SWISSCOGNITIVE, ITS PARTNERS AND EXPLAINABLES IN THE FUTURE.

SHARING, CONNECTING AND UNLOCKING THE POTENTIALS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

SwissCognitive – The Global AI Hub – is a trusted network of industries, organizations, enterprises and start-ups to openly and transparently discuss the opportunities, impacts and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is on and offline community that focuses on practical use-cases and hands-on experiences, and transfers the hype around AI into real possibilities. It encourages to join forces to drive the world forward with AI and other cognitive technologies.

If that sounds like a perfect partner for the Explainables to you, you think like us.

CognitiveTanks - from NASA applications to everyday use cases

SwissCognitive’s regular events, so-called CognitiveTanks, with national and international speakers feature presentations of concrete pilots and use-cases and target influential Global AI-thinkers, experts, and C-Levels. The first contact with Explainables was made when our Founder and Managing Director Daniel Angerhausen presented his work on Machine learning applications on NASA defined challenges in space research. Explainables followers might also remember our work with the researchers at NASA Frontier Development Lab in the same context last summer (OF CATS, DOGS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SPACE). He immediately realized that not only his scientific knowledge about machine learning applications can help the SwissCognitive community, but that also our Explainables lectures about communicating complex and technical content between stakeholders of diverse backgrounds would help the community.

Explainables Workshop at the MARCH 2019 CognitiveTank

The March 2019 tank was hosted at Helsana Switzerland headquarters and was titled “Empower Your Organisation With Vitamin AI”. In the first session various keynote speakers - mostly CIOs, Heads of Data Science or AI at various Swiss companies - presented their use cases and experiences with artificial intelligence and machine learning in their organizations. One of the scheduled afternoon breakout sessions was our Explainables communication bootcamp. We started with our classic “Yes, and…” an “Communication GAME plan” exercises to set the stage. One of the highlights was our “Time traveler” exercise which we redesigned for the particular event (“You are coming back from 20 years in the future and have 2 minutes to explain what AI changed in your organization”).

A key take home message from our “Data is not Knowledge” section: diverse teams with a corresponding diverse background knowledge about the data as well as the models are crucial to avoid serious problems with data biases.

This, and the entire event were very nicely rounded up by Dalith Steiger- Co-Founder, Managing Partner of SwissCognitive:

“It is our responsibility and mission to consciously use the enormous opportunities that AI brings to humanity, and by joining forces, focus on potentials, manage fear, and drive our world forward for the better.”

Dalith Steiger- Co-Founder, Managing Partner SwissCognitve

All in all a successful afternoon with lots of laughs but also lessons learned. We are looking forward to future engagements with SwissCognitive and the Swiss AI community.
